Abstract :
This paper describes the application of fuzzy control to a complex object, that of temperature control for furnace, and develops a three-dimensional fuzzy control table. Electric furnace with multiple temperature zones is a typical kind of multivariable control object. It has some characteristics which affect the control system, such as strong coupling, nonlinearity, time-variant parameters, etc. For this kind of complex object, the control strategy can be divided into two steps. First, it employs a decoupling strategy based on feedforward compensation to reduce the coupling between adjacent temperature zones. Then it applies the fuzzy control strategy to each temperature zone after compensation. A three-dimensional fuzzy control table is described. The results of a practical run show that the control strategy is encouraging
