Abstract :
The authors describe some of the new design features which have enabled the latest fuel-injector driver integrated circuits to achieve improved robustness and reliability, together with better fault condition detection during open-circuit conditions in the on-state. They also discuss power limiting as an alternative to thermal shutdown as a protection mechanism for excessive power conditions such as observed when a lead is short-circuited. A die photograph of the 104018 intelligent fuel injector IC is presented
