Abstract :
Recently, the angled-grating distributed feedback laser (α-DFB) was demonstrated to provide a collimated, single-lobed, near-Gaussian output up to 1 W cw diffraction-limited at a wavelength of 980 nm. This device is based upon the narrow angular and wavelength selectivity of distributed reflection from a tilted-angle embedded grating. The α-DFB laser utilizes grating selectivity to provide both spatial and spectral mode filtering over a large area active region. This mode filtering concept can be extended to a wide range of wavelengths. In this work, we present results on the first demonstration of α-DFB lasers operating at 920 nm. We report on single-mode operation up to 430 mW cw in a diffraction-limited beam
