Abstract :
This paper applies Cramer-Rao theory to synthetic aperture radar (SAR) in order to establish optimal performance bounds on target parameter estimation. The Cramer-Rao bound (CRB) establishes a lower bound on the error variance of unbiased or asymptotically efficient parameter estimates (L.L. Scharf, 1991). Bounds on the estimation of various target parameters are developed, and the extension to multistatic SAR (MSAR) is considered.
