Abstract
This study was carried out to investigate the water storage capacity and the capability of flood regulation of paddy fields in Four-lake Region, of Jianghan Plain. The analysis were based on the type and distribution of paddy soil and the rainfall characteristics, we estimated the economic value of flood reduction of medium rice of Jingzhou in 2011 was US$39 thousand. It indicated that paddy fields were very effective in flood reduction/retaining rainfalle.
