Abstract :
The optimum location is studied for an embedded dual-band dipole antenna operating in two frequency bands of 824-894 MHz (WCDMA band V) and 1910-2170 MHz (WCDMA band I) mounted on the inner walls of a WCDMA router. Obtained numerical results of return losses and radiation patterns of the antenna in free space and inside the router are validated by measurement data. From simulation results and measurement data, it is found that the impedance matching, bandwidth, operating frequency, and radiation pattern of the antenna mounted on the inner walls of the WCDMA router is strongly affected by the distance between the antenna and the PCB. The simulations and measurements indicate that the distance between the antenna and the PCB should be kept at least 0.1 wavelength in order to obtain a good antenna performance.
