The peculiarities of a stable least square spectral parameter estimation technique with successive growing model order and adaptive regularization are considered. The advantages of this novel approach are displayed by the results of numerical simulation of complex reflection coefficient spectral analysis for the case of phase distortion due to signal propagation in a waveguide
