Abstract :
This paper proposes a pragmatic algorithm to design optimal irregular low-density parity-check codes, which adopts a one-dimensional density evolution to calculate the noise threshold and utilizes fast-convergence differential evolution to search the optimal degree profiles. Simulation results show that the irregular LDPC codes optimized by the presented algorithm can also beat Turbo codes even at moderate block length.
