Abstract :
A wireless multi-hop network is a collection of wireless nodes that dynamically form a temporary network without infrastructure support. With the increase in the bandwidth of wireless channels, and in the computing power of devices, video applications are expected to become available in wireless multi-hop networks in a near future. However, limited network resource, severe interference/contention among neighbor traffic, dynamic changing route, etc. pose many challenges for supporting video communication over wireless multi-hop networks. An overview for the state-of-art work on multimedia over multi-hop networks is given in this paper. More specifically, the recent progress in efficient and resilient video coding and protection solutions, the network routing and transport protocols, link-layer QoS support enhancement, and cross-layer design for media over multi-hop environment are reviewed.
