Abstract :
An integrated services communication system based on backbone satellite channels with a developed terrestrial part is described. The system is to provide banks which have a large number of branches, situated in different republics of CIS as well as abroad, with a reliable and cost-effective means of communication. The system also illustrates the general approach of Informsviaz to development of corporate wide area communication systems. The system described has three levels of nodes which corresponds to structure of the bank and to information flow within the bank. The software system developed by Informsviaz and aimed to link earth stations in one network gives an opportunity for large numbers of users to share a limited number of channels. Customers are also free to choose earth stations and satellite modems from a wide range of equipment produced in CIS or abroad. The system is one of the first Russian produced systems with shared (switched) satellite channels (not fixed ones) which have been put into operation. The first version of the system was implemented in 1993 for the “Vostok” Bank, which has about 30 branches all around CIS and abroad. Different modifications of the general purpose control system of the satellite communication network are described. The versions can serve for the purposes of data and voice transfer. Data can be transferred in interactive or in store and forward mode. Data access can be performed via the X.25 interface. A description of the network node structure is given
