Abstract :
We consider that Electroluminescence (EL) is related to material degradation. When cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) is subjected to long time voltage application of 5kVrms for 25 hours, time-variation of EL intensity can be classified into five stages. In stage IV a tree channel seems to initiate but discharge doesn´t occur at the low voltage of 5kVrms. In this paper, we study the relation between EL time-variation and the treeing phenomena in detail.
