Abstract :
The buzz word of recent times, Green Engineering has gone far away from sensation to reality. Studies shows that the carbon emission of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry exceeds that of aviation industry by many folds. This fact worked as an eye-opener for many and hence measurement and control of the carbon factors in ICT industry has gained increased focus. Standards for measurement and migration methodology are slowly but steadily evolving. In any Information Technology (IT) infrastructure, the data network takes a huge share of power consumption. Hence measurement and control of carbon emission in data-network add lots of acceleration in the journey to achieve green. This journal discusses the various issues in the measurement and control of carbon emission in data network nodes. The discussion is centered on the inefficiencies of the existing systems and the analysis of the same. Useful insights are derived as conclusion.
