Abstract :
Discrete surface curvature is an important value which measures or reflects the specific morphology and defomaiton characteristics of some sample points. In this paper, we proposed a novel discrete surface curvature estimation method which is based on the voronoi poles. The method take the advantage of that the poles are good approximation of the media axis of the geometry, and computed by using the relationship between the sampling points and the inner and outer poles. The method is easy to be implemented and can be computed during the process of surface reconstruction. The experiment shows that the estimated value not only reflect the convex or concave area of the surface but also can measure the curvature at each sampling points.
