Abstract :
Epoxy/Organic-Montmorillonite (O-MMT) nanocomposites were prepared through melting intercalation and solvent intercalation processes, respectively. The interplanar spacing of montmorillonite before/after the intercalation treatment, the fracture morphology of the nanocomposites and the dispersion condition of the o-MMT were investigated by XRD (X-ray diffraction) and SEM (scanning electron microscope), with the results showing that there was a structure that the epoxy resin had been intercalated into the interlayer of the o-MMT, which dispersed disorderly and had been exfoliated independently on the mixing temperature. The thermal stability of the composites was characterized by TGA (therm o-gravimetric analysis). The results showed that the thermal decomposition temperature of 5% weight loss increased with increasing mixing temperature.
