Abstract :
Recent advances in telecommunication allow for a large variety of new communication means. Users are now able to access Internet contents through various devices such as laptops, PCs, PDAs, cellular phones, Web TV, etc. These devices can connect through new networks and protocols (e.g. GSM, GPRS. WAP, WiFi, etc). These networks and access protocols are now being integrated into the wired Internet. Also, these devices are subject to significant evolution both in terms of their content formats, network resources and hardware characteristics. In this situation, it is important to establish mechanisms which give access and the use of Internet contents in a form that corresponds to the constraints imposed by the environment of these devices. This paper presents a proposal of architecture for Internet content adaptation for mobile devices in a heterogeneous environment. This proposal is implemented in a system called CASHE (for content adaptation system for heterogeneous environments) that provides adapted Internet contents to the users for various devices taking into account contextual constraints and the limitations of the heterogeneous environments under consideration.
