            Abstract : 
Single-mode output powers exceeding 165 mW (CW, 25/spl deg/C) are demonstrated from 1550 nm distributed-feedback (DFB) lasers designed for externally-modulated analog and digital transmission. The devices have been incorporated into a commercial fiber-pigtailed butterfly module which offers high-power, narrow-linewidth (<1 MHz), and low-RIN (<160 dB/Hz) operation.
