Abstract :
We present a new message authentication code (MAC) called the BCH-NTMAC. The BCH-NTMAC improves on the recently developed CRC-NTMAC and the NTMAC. Similar to the CRC-NTMAC and the NTMAC, the BCH-NTMAC can tolerate a modest number of errors, such as might be caused by a noisy communications channel. Moreover, all these new NTMACs provide estimates of the number and the locations of the errors. However, the BCH-NTMAC has a much lower false acceptance probability as the CRC-NTMAC does. It also provides a much better error number estimation than both the CRC-NTMAC and the NTMAC do. The BCH-NTMAC is not based on cryptographic hash functions and a security analysis under a chosen message attack is developed to verify its security.
