Abstract :
To clarify the neural mechanism at the early stage of the jamming avoidance responses of Eigenmannia, we present the microscopic models of two types of the electroreceptors which may code the frequency modulation and the phase modulation respectively, of the electric organ discharge, as well as a neural network model of the electrosensory lateral line lobe (ELL) which may recognize variations of the interpulse distances coding of amplitude modulations. These models are constructed based on the physiological and anatomical data observed. These models may reproduce the observed functions of the receptors and the ELL, and reveal the mechanism by which the functions are realized.
