Abstract :
The fire of log pile was the most dangerous for the safety of log yard. The main method of extinguish full scale log pile was spraying water and Halon, but there were some shortcomings in them. Water-mist had become one of the most potential replacements of Halon. The numerical simulation of extinguish full-scale fire by water mist was researched based on FDS. In numerical simulation, the diameter of water mist drop, velocity of water mist drop and distance between sprayer and top of log pile were discussed, and best parameters in FDS were fixed on. The result showed that water-mist system could extinguish the fire of log pile effectively when the diameter of water mist was 100-150 μm, velocity of spraying water mist was 30-70m/s and distance between sprayer and top of log pile was 5m. These useful data could be helpful for the design of fire extinguish system for log pile in log yard and fire safety management.
