Abstract :
In this study, we propose a novel method to estimate the effective earth radius factor (K factor) by using the propagation characteristics of two different frequencies in UHF band; the propagation characteristics can be measured over the seto inland sea (SIS). In the proposed method, it is assumed that the propagation losses are characterized by the Two-ray model in connection with both variations of K factor and sea level. If the propagation losses of two frequencies and the sea level are obtained, the value of K factor can be estimated in the reasonable range (1.0 < K < 3.0). This method provides to estimate the K factor without using a radiosonde. This paper shows the method of estimating the K factor from propagation losses of UHF band radio waves. And, based on the estimated K factor data, this paper newly evaluates the statistical characteristics of the K factor in the SIS region.
