Abstract
Fuzzy controllers are widely applied on various systems. One reason is because even strong nonlinearities can be easily introduced to these controllers. Although nonlinearities can be easily introduced, it is very hard to determine the degree of nonlinearity. This paper suggests a simple approach to control the nonlinearity of the controller due to Mamdani´s max-min method (1974) by changing the defuzzification method. We show, that under certain assumptions, even an almost linear controller can be obtained. Finally, a simulation study of an inverted pendulum applying the new defuzzification method is presented.
