Abstract
Discusses the following fibre devices for use in telecomms: grating compensators; optical fiber amplifiers; and optical fibre switches. Fibre lasers are competitive for short pulse, tunable or DFB applications. High power fibre lasers and amplifiers looking very attractive with many applications outside telecoms.
