  • Abstract
Influence from weather and environment is the main reason of insulator flashover and it does great harm to national economy. As the electric symbol, leakage current plays an important role in the detection of insulators. In this paper, the mechanism of insulator flashover is described. By analyzing empirical mode decomposition and the high-frequency characteristics of insulator leakage current, the authors propose a new method for reducing the noise included in the current signal. Based on the characteristics of the insulator leakage current, some improvement is done to the algorithm of EMD and it effectively solves the problem brought by end effect. Through the simulative and practical tests, it is proved that the improved algorithm is more efficient as well as the method for reducing the noise by EMD.
