  • Abstract
    Small-sized 10 Gb/s optical transmitter modules and receiver modules have been developed utilizing modulator integrated DFB-LDs and multichip modules with Si-ICs. The size of the optical transmitter including an 8:1 multiplexer IC and the optical receiver including a 1:8 demultiplexer IC are as small as 115/spl times/75/spl times/15 mm/sup 3/ and 105/spl times/105/spl times/15 mm/sup 3/, respectively. The characteristics of these small modules have been confirmed through 80 km standard fiber transmission with dispersion compensating fibers.
