Abstract :
A new method for efficiently coupling an array of semiconductor waveguides to an array of single-mode fibers is proposed and experimentally tested. It does not require additional process steps as compared to butt coupling. A coupling efficiency of 25% was achieved and 50% is expected to be achievable.
