            Abstract : 
A cost-effective repeaterless system with remote pumping in a single fiber is reported. Omitting dedicated pump fibers, 490 km transmission is demonstrated at 2.488 Gb/s with a fiber loss of 87.4 dB. The system employs a remote pre-amplifier and dispersion-compensating fiber but no remote post-amplifier.
