Abstract :
Soliton coupling to the continuum generated in periodically amplified lines is the major cause of impairment in large capacity systems. Here we present a perturbative analysis leading to an estimate of the maximum channel capacity $the minimum transmittable pulsewidth for a given fiber dispersion and amplifier spacing.
