Abstract :
A base station antenna often needs a wide, circularly polarized radiation beam. It is desired that the antenna should be as thin as possible, to make it lightweight and inconspicuous. This paper presents an antenna that satisfies these requirements. The main part of the antenna to be considered is a thin patch, which has perturbation sites on two corners, to generate a circularly polarized wave. A wide radiation beam is realized by using a folded conducting wall, which partially encloses the patch. The antenna is referred to as a "partially enclosed patch antenna" (PePA) in this paper. The PePA is analyzed using the FDTD method and the radiation characteristics are discussed.
