Abstract
Automatic and real-time monitoring of the deformation and instability of slopes and crags is an effective means to predict landslide and other geological disasters. It helps grasp the disaster rules, make a timely qualitative or quantitative safety evaluation, and minimize the disaster occurrence and damage. The ZigBee-based WSN (Wireless Sensor Network) technology was used to real-time sample and monitor the change of the rakes and water level of slopes and crags, and wireless communication and Internet messaging were employed in teleprocessing interaction so as to achieve telemonitoring and early-warning of geological disasters. The monitoring system configuration, the WSN topology, the sensor nodes structure and their software and hardware design, the system´s performance and applications were discussed. Compared with traditional monitoring systems, this one has these advantages such as simple nodes distribution, reliability, easy maintenance, low cost and easy expanding of monitoring scale, etc.
