Abstract
An H-L (high and low energy transparencies) curve method is proposed for material recognition in dual energy X-ray inspection systems. Experiments on a series of common materials are conducted and demonstrate good performance in discrimination of practical objects. The concept of intrinsic difference between materials is introduced to quantitatively investigate the possibility of material recognition under a certain noise level. System design and evaluation can be facilitated by using this method
