Abstract
This paper outlines an approach to developing an emulation environment embedded in an automated test system (ATS) controller´s operating system kernel. By taking this approach, it is possible to design an emulator that is built for multiple ATS environments, allowing it to be seamlessly ported from ATS to ATS for use with many different test program sets (TPS). This paper then explores possible uses for such an emulator for the purpose of reducing the life-cycle costs associated with ATS and TPS development and maintenance.
