Abstract :
This paper deals with the problem of load balancing in a network of workstations. Based on the study of recent work in the area, we propose a general classification of load balancing techniques. The load balancing strategies are classified on three parameters addressing initiation (sender or receiver), load balancer location (centralized or distributed) and decision-making (local or global). This gives a thorough overview of different load balancing strategies, helping designers to compare and choose the most suitable strategy for a given application.
