Abstract :
This paper points out the factor that affects the VoIP ( voice over IP ) capacity under the PMP ( point-to-multipoint) mode in the IEEE 802.16 system. By theoretically analyzing the statistical characteristics of VoIP data streams, we propose a new bandwidth allocation algorithm and implement it based on the adaptive linear prediction, which can remarkably reduce the bandwidth waste resulted from UGS (unsolicited grant service) specified in the IEEE 802.16 standard and overcome the conservative nature of effective bandwidth. Simulation results show that this algorithm can improve VoIP capacity up to 150% and 50% compared with UGS and effective bandwidth, respectively. In addition, the packet loss rate and transfer delay are 1.4% and 5.1ms below between BS (base station) and SS (subscriber station) Respectively
