Abstract :
The localized coupling of surface and bulk plasmons maintained by inhomogeneity of the charge density distribution can significantly modify the waveguiding properties of a plasma-like medium. It is demonstrated that the electrically induced bulk plasmon resonance can efficiently modulate the traveling surface plasmon polaritons. This approach is shown to have a high potential for light manipulation and development of an electro-optical plasmonic modulator with a high modulation response.
