Abstract :
This paper deals with the design of arbitrary waveform generator using the direct digital synthesis (DDS) technique. The key idea is the utilization of look-up table (LUT) supported with code composer studio (CCS) platform. The synthesized arbitrary waveform is generated by storing the samples of the signal described by mathematical equation in the form of LUT in the memory of TMS320VC5416 digital signal processor (DSP) and subsequently by recalling the stored samples periodically. The D/A converter generated the analog waveform. The CCS platform motivates the writing of the required program in common C language and thereby reduces the extra burden of understanding the assembly code pertaining to the relevant processor. Two categories of the arbitrary waveforms have been generated. In the first category, the basic tool is the mathematical equation from which the Hex equivalents to the samples have been generated through CCS platform. The second category utilizes a sequencer to control the execution of segmented LUTs to generate a true arbitrary waveform. Experimental results have been included.
