Abstract :
SAW (surface acoustic wave) filters have been applied to FIR modulation systems such as QPSK (quadrature phase shift keying) and MSK (minimum shift keying) because they offer precise time-domain symbol shaping, which provides many different types of systems to be implemented with varying spectral confinement, time-domain envelope uniformity, and intersymbol interference. By using the combination of a digital message sequence, an impulse driver, and different SAW modulator filters, an RF testbed has been designed for experimental testing of arbitrary quadrature binary modulation schemes. The SAW filter quadrature binary modulation system and advantages are discussed. Excellent agreement between time- and frequency-domain measurements and theory using the SAW modulation system is shown. In addition, the hardware testbed design is described, and system optimization is discussed
