Abstract
A brief description of an application of a SAW (surface acoustic wave) CZT processor to spectrum analysis of radio astronomical signals is given. A prototype of a SAW CZT-based radio astronomy spectrometer is designed for a millimeter-wave radio telescope of 13.7-m aperture at the Qinghai Station of the Purple Mountain Astronomical Observatory of China with a real-time bandwidth of 40-MHz and a frequency resolution of less than 40 kHz. It has been both measured under laboratory conditions and tested by installation at the back end of the radio telescope. The measured electric specifications and the testing observation results for 22-GHz H2O molecular maser radiation confirm its competitive application potential in radio astronomy techniques
