Abstract
The discontinuous inductor current mode operation of the classical Boost converter and of a modified Boost converter are compared. Selected voltage and current waveforms are given. Voltage and current transformation laws are established. It is shown that the ripple current through the input bypass capacitor is smaller in the new step-up converter for a range of duty cycles, depending on the voltage transformation rate (step-up ratio).
