Abstract :
This paper presents the design and simulated results of a baseband variable-gain-amplifier (VGA) with temperature compensation and linear-in dB gain control used in a direct conversion DVB-S tuner system. Temperature compensation and decibel-linear characteristic are achieved by means of a control circuit which provides a lower than +/-0.5 dB gain error over the full 0degC to 100degC temperature range and -10 dB~6 dB gain range. The VGA core adopts a novel linearized transconductor topology, and the IIP3 of the VGA is 32.5 dBv at 3 dB gain. The device is fabricated in a 0.35-mum SiGe BiCMOS technology and drains 13 mA from a 3.3-V power supply.
