Abstract :
A novel transducer structure which incorporates an active piezoelectric matching layer has been fabricated. This active matching layer is effectively used for pulse shaping purposes and an elegant technique, based on a Laplace domain matrix technique, is presented for determining the voltage excitation required to achieve a specified result. If arbitrary excitation can be applied to both layers then even greater versatility is afforded. Practical results demonstrate the viability of the technique
