  • Abstract
    It is the first time that fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor is used for safety monitoring of cantilever crane of huge crane barge in China. According to finite element method, several FBG strain sensors and FBG temperature compensation sensors are installed on high stresses points of the cantilever crane. Along with computers and FBG demodulation system, we build up a set of safety monitoring system. The relative error of every measurement point is found to be less than 1% by analyzing the measurement data, which meets the requirements of measurement. The FBG sensor system is working well after it had been installed for several months. It is feasible to use the FBG technology for the safety monitoring of huge cantilever crane structure combined with computer technology.
