Abstract :
This paper presents the performance of Series Active Filter (SeAF) employing two different switching schemes like Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) switching and Hysteresis PWM switching in a single-phase distribution system. FPGA Controller has been used for implementation of the switching schemes in the experimental setup. The control algorithm of both the switching schemes of the controller were designed using Very High Speed Integrated Circuit (VHSIC) Hardware Description Language (VHDL) and was implemented using Xilinx SPARTAN 3AN FPGA embedded in Altium Nanoboard. The percentage total harmonic distortion of the compensated load voltage has been considered as a measure for assessing the performance. The results obtained from the laboratory experimentation shows that the performance of SeAF with hysteresis PWM switching is better.
