Abstract
A model is presented for motion detection based on the anatomy and physiology of biological retinas. This model is capable of handling realistic images at rates of up to 5 per minute on a workstation. It is fully interactive with the user. The code was written so as to be extendable and modular. The authors describe the model and point out analogies to biological retinas. The model tracks better than thresholding algorithms followed by Kalman filtering. Its implementation in VLSI is conceptually straightforward. The need to develop better performance measures is outlined.<>
