Abstract
Two approaches - active and passive - are generally used in thermal nondestructive evaluation. The active approach requires using an external heat source to stimulate materials to be inspected, as well as recording thermal fields in time. Unlike the active approach, the passive approach is applicable to materials and structures, of whose the temperature is different from ambient. In this case, temperature anomalies over hidden material inhomogeneities appear due to natural reasons or exploitation of objects under test.
