Abstract :
Debridement is referring to the removal of the grossly contaminated and devitalized soft tissue from the wounds in the meanwhile sparing the healthy tissue. With many types of debridement available nowadays, we can perform debridement using surgical, mechanical, enzymatic, autolytic and biosurgery method . Surgical debridement is considered the fastest and effective method to clean up a wound and is usually performed prior to skin grafting to achieve a clean wound that free from necrotic or deciduous tissue. Furthermore, the graft should be held in close proximity and immobilized to the wound bed in order to prevent shear force and blood or serum collection between wound and graft and thus promote vascular ingrowth. Because the utilization of curette and scissor during the debriding process will coarsen the wound bed, even deleterious to the healthy tissue, thus the surgical outcome is deeply unfavorable because dead spaces between the wound and graft will interfere normal vascular ingrowth, and subsequent graft survival. We employed an electrosurgical tip cleaner in surgical debridement that is to make a clean, flat and even wound bed is skill demanding especially for the less experienced, also provided with mechanical analysis.
