Abstract :
This paper investigates the impact of wind generation systems, i.e. wind farms, on the voltage control of the public distribution system. A previous study has shown that voltage magnitude of a distribution system can be controlled successfully in the absence of embedded generators by using on-load tap-changer transformer(s). However the integration of wind farms into distribution systems has resulted in unacceptable voltage fluctuation. This paper highlights the impact of the frequent variation of wind farms output and the co-ordination of AVC relays at different voltage levels on system power quality. The responses of AVC relays due to wind power fluctuation and different tap operation sequences are analysed
