Abstract
Collaborative Virtual Environments (CVEs) such as military training, emergency preparedness, and online games can place strict requirements on network when participating users are sharing 3D virtual environment through mobile devices in an ad-hoc network. Most of the existing CVEs supporting systems are tuned to specific tasks and their architecture are, typically, tightly coupled to wired network. This paper describes the proposal and evaluation of Gnutella peer-to-peer network over mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs) in order to support large-scale CVEs. The overlay network manages the mobile device resources with a fair workload by using mobile Ultrapeer and node states. A novel discovery technique, in which mobile nodes are found through both their state and their physical position in the CVE, is presented.
