Abstract
This brief presents a novel idea of replacing the purely analog technique of AM modulation with ΔΣ modulation. The idea is to transmit the pulse wave with same amplitude but varying width with respect to the amplitude of the input signal instead of multiplying the input signal with the carrier as is the case in AM modulation. A system level modeling is presented as a proof of concept followed by the MATLAB results. Circuit level implementation of 1st order delta sigma “AM” modulator is also presented, capable of operating within AM broadcast range and above.
