Abstract :
The authors have developed a centrifugal blood pump with a magnetically suspended impeller. The magnetic levitation system has a simple structure of only 3 actively controlled axes. A linear quadratic optimal control algorithm regulates the position of the impeller within 30 μm from the set point for whole range of motor speed. Performance evaluation tests show satisfactory results of flow rate and differential pressure of the developed pump as a cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) device
