Abstract :
The usage of microwave against competition from more conventional heating methods has been its appeal to special advantages, such as faster throughputs, space and energy saving and quality improvement. But, without the possession of the technical expertise and the understanding of the basic principles of microwave heating and the apparatus, the well-established advantage of microwave energy over conventional techniques becomes useless in the industrial area. The Electricity Council Research Center carried out a study in 1981 of the usage of industrial microwave applications in terms of a full-scale industrial installation, a prototype of an industrial installation and laboratory works. Through this research, a few fields in industrial installations and many problems in the prototype installation and laboratory because of technical problems, were established. The main problem that has to be overcome is uniform heating in an applicator or in a conveyer chamber.
